While it's not uncommon to see dolphins in Lake Macquarie, it is unusual for them to stay in the same spot for such an extended period.
Narelle Drain owns Overnight Reflections, a bed and breakfast, which backs onto the lake.
The venue is only about 20 metres from the dolphins' new playground.
She said the dolphins followed a boat into the lake last Friday and had hung around the boat ever since.
"I've been here for 41 years and I've never seen anything like it," Ms Drain said.
At first the boat owner though the dolphins might be disoriented, so he took a trip - with the dolphins in tow - out to Marks Point to lead the dolphins to Swansea Channel and out to the ocean but they followed the boat back to Fishing Point.
A spokesperson from Sea World, on the Gold Coast, told Ms Drain the dolphins are most likely enjoying the protected water; one of them could possibly be giving birth.
Whatever the reason, Ms Drain's guests have been enthralled by the dolphins' presence.
"We have some guests from Bathurst at the moment and they don't want to leave," she said.
"A lot of locals have been coming along and having a look at them in their boats and kayaks - but everyone has been very respectful and haven't disturbed them."
