The pre-season fixture will give both teams valuable match practice on the eve of their respective competitions.
Bragging rights will also be on the line.
The Lakes Mail has inaugurated the shield to be contested annually.
Lakes Mail business manager Tony Cummins said the newspaper was proud to support the clubs.
"Both teams are within our circulation area and epitomise the friendly rivalry that always exists between Newcastle/Lake Macquarie and our Central Coast neighbours," Mr Cummins said.
"We're also very happy to provide the perpetual Lakes Mail Cricket Challenge Shield with its first outing at the inaugural game, at Ron Hill Oval, Toronto, this Saturday." The game starts at 10am.
