Locals have been incensed by what they see as the council's delayed response to the erosion.
Alexander Parade has been made one way and a stop sign erected. But the knock-on effect has seen heavy traffic diverted onto small side streets that weren't built to cope with the added load, locals such as Ron Hines, of Wangi Wangi, have told the Lakes Mail.
At the meeting on Monday night, the council voted to call for quotes for the design and construction of a piled retaining wall.
Asset manager Glen Walker said given the close proximity of the road and footpath to the lake, a specialist contractor will be required.
"Geotechnical and engineering investigations have determined that the works are quite specific in nature, with council staff identifying that a piled retaining wall is likely to be the best engineering solution," he said.
Works were likely to start early next year.
