The NSW benchmark for a library in an area with the population of Morisset is 1300 square metres.
Morisset's library is only 219 square metres.
Lake Macquarie City Council co-ordinator of social and community planning Stephen McAlister said Morisset's library isn't big enough for the area's current population, let alone its predicted growth of 16,000 people over the next 15 years.
A new library would be a key feature in the town centre development proposed by the council.
