There are 90 more politicians yet to be checked out. Wouldn't it be more practical to draw a line under current examinations and presume that the entire government is potentially tainted?
So, do we elect another tainted government or do we have a look at the current democratic system and make some changes that may restore public confidence in our system of governance?
The first target for change is to remove the pre-election bribery by making all election funding paid for by the taxpayer. I suggest $500 be refunded to all candidates that attract more then 2 per cent of the vote and that any other money spent on the election, including your own, be illegal.
The second target must be that only projects that have been announced prior to an election may proceed. The only exception being urgent essential projects as defined.
Australia led the world in the instigation of democracy following the Eureka Stockade.
The decisions made at that time were unthinkable to western society which generally took decades to catch up.
Again we have the opportunity to lead the world and make radical changes to our governance system which would ultimately be the envy of all free countries.
