SHOPPERS at Morisset Square felt extra safe when Lake Macquarie police officers dropped in for a community meet-and-greet session.
As part of Lake Macquarie Local Area Command's (LAC) community engagement program, officers from the crime management unit, along with the aboriginal community liaison officer, met shoppers and provided information and answers to questions.
Lake Macquarie Local Area Commander Superintendent Brett Greentree said community engagement aims to make police visible in the community.
"It's a way to talk to people about crime prevention, and answer any questions, issues or inquiries they might have," Superintendent Greentree said.
"The community engagement program is great because it allows us to be proactive, rather than reactive."
Superintendent Greentree said he enjoyed community engagement programs and the LAC would be looking to do it more often.
Aspiring police officer, Zane Barnett, 9, was delighted to try on a riot police helmet.
