The man was driving along Trinity Point Drive, in Morisset Park, when he noticed people waving.
He then realised smoke was coming from under the bonnet, and quickly pulled over.
When emergency services arrived the front of the car was ablaze. Captain of Morisset Fire and Rescue NSW Steve McNulty said the fire is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault.
"The car was totally destroyed - the fire was so intense it melted the tyres into the road," Mr McNulty said.
The fire took about 10 minutes to contain and no one was injured.
