The annual night recognised many people involved with all facets of WDNA, including officials, volunteers, umpires, coaches, players and sponsors.

Without these people there would be no netball, but thanks to their love of the sport Westlakes players have the opportunity to show the rest of the region and state what an abundance of talented athletes the WDNA has.

This year, Westlakes achieved outstanding results in both the Netball NSW State League and the State Age Championships, along with commendable performances at local and Sydney-based carnivals.

Lake Macquarie City councillor Wendy Harrison, state MP Greg Piper and federal MP Pat Conroy attended the awards and presented awards.

Georgia Dodson and Sophie Bradbury from the Westlakes under-14s team took out the goal shooting award and Jenni Townsend, Belinda Wardley, Tara Culbert and Vicki Lewis all received outstanding volunteer awards.

The author was both honoured and humbled to be awarded the John Jarmain Memorial Shield, a perpetual award for commitment to representative netball.

The Westlakes twilight netball competition will kick off on Monday, October 13, and run for 10 weeks, finishing on Monday, December 15.

All teams must go through a Westlakes-affiliated club.

The Westlakes finals will begin this Saturday for all club teams.

The president and executives remind all officials, spectators and players that good sportsmanship is expected.

In all games there can only be one winner on the scoreboard, but with good sportsmanship and mutual respect everyone is a winner.
