Mayor Doug Eaton and council general manager Michael Whittaker have had another meeting with CUB executives, who are overseeing the dismantling of the brewing equipment at the site.
"CUB said to us today that they wanted the plant to stay open in some capacity and continue to employ local staff, so that is very positive for our residents," Cr Eaton said.
"It's actually a great set-up there at Warnervale and we want the plant to be transferred to council to explore what other opportunities there might be for reusing the site."
Cr Eaton said the site fits well into the long-term plans for the region, which include a regional airport, masterplans for an education precinct, and the possibility of a new suburb at East Wadalba.
