At about 4.20am on Tuesday morning the 57-year-old man was stopped at a set of traffic lights at an intersection in the Campbelltown suburb of Leumeah.
An unknown man wearing a hooded jumper allegedly got into the passenger’s seat and directed the man to drive.
Without speaking to the man any further, he drove until he got to a service station on the M1 at Jilliby, where he was told to stop.
The unknown man was not seen again and the driver was not injured. It’s not believed the man was armed.
Police attended and conducted a search of the surrounding area. The vehicle involved has also been seized for forensic examination.
Officers from Campbelltown Local Area Command will be taking carriage of the ongoing investigation and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
