The past can teach us valuable lessons.
Lake Macquarie City Council tried to sell the hall some years ago.
This was discovered to be illegal, when two residents did a title search. The hall is built on Crown Land and the council has no control over this property.
The hall is in safe hands and will be there for redevelopment in the future.
But why plan and waste money now to demolish and duplicate services we already have, especially when we do not know what the future holds?
The state government is looking at a more functional plan in the running of councils by amalgamation.
Among the proposals are boundary changes and a new Central Coast council formed. This move would cut costs dramatically.
The custodians of Morisset Memorial Hall are volunteers. They cost the ratepayer nothing and provide a low-cost venue.
Support these exceptional citizens. Their wonderful work is truly appreciated.
They soldier on like the brave lads the hall commemorates.
Lest we forget.
