A free seminar at Toronto next month aims to provide user-friendly information for the families and friends of people living with such issues.
The Stepping Forward seminar will be presented by Family Drug Support Australia in conjunction with Toronto Private Hospital.
Toronto therapy services manager Simon Raine said that while support was available for those battling drug and alcohol problems, there was less available for those close to them.
"Sometimes family and friends can have the best of intentions, but they aren't really sure what to say or do," Mr Raine said.
The seminar would comprise three sessions covering stages of change for users and families, effective communication, and drug and alcohol information.
"The seminar will provide user-friendly information on the change process that people go through from using to not using," Mr Raine said.
The seminar will be held at Brighton Apartments, Toronto, from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, August 2.
