Cynthia Edwards, 84, had travelled from Morisset to Epping to visit friends when her nightmare began.
As Ms Edwards attempted to step out of the carriage at Epping she fell down the gap between the train and the platform, badly gouging her leg.
"I was in shock, and fearful that the train would take off because as I looked up I could see the flagman," she said.
A guard and a fellow passenger came to her aid.
"I pulled up my slacks to look at my injury and the blood was flowing everywhere from a gaping hole in my leg," she said.
Ms Edwards was transported by ambulance to Royal North Shore Hospital.
She required treatment, including two skin grafts, over three months.
The ordeal has put her off train travel entirely.
"Even now when I really must catch a train I get very nervous and I'd rather not do it," she said.
Bus campaign
CYNTHIA Edwards is supporting South Lake Macquarie Public Transport Action Group’s campaign for a bus service linking Morisset with Wyong Hospital.
Southlakes residents needing public transport to the hospital must currently catch a train to Wyong, then a bus from Wyong Station to the hospital at Kanwal.
The SLMPTAG campaign is calling on the state government for a regular bus service directly between Morisset and the grounds of Wyong Hospital.
■ To support the SLMPTAG campaign, tell your story, and explain why the bus service is needed. Email your submissions to slmptag2264@gmail.com, or leave hard copies at Dora Creek Pharmacy or either of the pharmacies in Morisset.
