BONNELLS Bay teenager Emma-Sue Greentree is hoping to add to her medal collection at the Australian Little Athletics Championships in Melbourne next Saturday.
The Hunter Sports High School student will compete in the under-15s multi-event.
Emma-Sue was selected by Little Athletics NSW to represent the state after her silver-medal winning performance at the Shellharbour State Multi-Event Championships.
Multi-event competition is similar to a heptathlon, where athletes amass points from their results in a range of events.
"Emma-Sue contested the 90-metres hurdles, long jump, discus, 200 metres and 800 metres," her mum, Sue Greentree, said.
"Only four athletes were selected for NSW in the under-15s age group - two boys and two girls."
Two years ago, Emma-Sue was selected to represent NSW in the same event in the under-13s age group at the Australian Little Athletics Championships.
At that meet, Emma-Sue won a gold medal in the high jump and bronze in the long jump.
Meanwhile, Emma-Sue has started the transition to heptathlon.
"Earlier this year she competed in her first under-16 heptathlon at the NSW Athletics Championships," Ms Greentree said.
She won a silver medal and her score meant that she became eligible to compete for NSW Athletics in the Australian Athletics Championships in Melbourne from April 3 to 6.
The under-16 combined event included 90-metres hurdles, 200 metres, javelin, long jump, high jump, shotput and 800 metres.
"After a very tight and gruelling competition, Emma-Sue came away with a very hard-won bronze medal," Ms Greentree said.
"This event was a great experience as it was also a Commonwealth Games selection trial and many great athletes attended."
