I OPPOSE the proposal to annex part of Lake Macquarie City as I firmly believe it is closely linked to Wyong Council's regional airport proposal, to which I am also vehemently opposed.

It is interesting that Wyong mayor Doug Eaton says the annexation proposal originated from the state government. I have always understood that the Boundaries Commission suggested changes in response to submissions.
Is mayor Eaton saying that Wyong made no such submissions, that the whole idea came from the commission?
If that is the case, I suggest it would be highly unusual.
Wyong's original airport plan would see the north-eastern corner of the proposed airport a mere two kilometres from Wyee.
Even though they have moved the site further south, I am of the opinion that the new proposal is a con job because that site is a rather irregular shape for an airport, unlike the uniform shape of their original plan.
Furthermore, their website states that the final plan could be different to that shown.
It seems pretty obvious that if Wyong succeeds in annexing our part of the city they would be able to ignore our objections to their airport and, as no part of the site would fall within the boundaries of Lake Macquarie City Council, that council would also be sidelined.
I hope mayor Eaton goes ahead with the idea of holding a meeting at Wyee because it would present an opportunity to seek a guarantee from him that, should annexation proceed, the airport will remain within the existing Wyong Shire boundaries and not be built any closer to Wyee than shown on the current plan.
