And the planned airport footprint does not extend into Wyee.
Wyong Mayor Doug Eaton this week rejected claims that Wyong Shire Council "needs Wyee" in order to proceed with its airport plan.
"We will proceed with the airport proposal with or without any boundary change," Cr Eaton told the Lakes Mail.
"In any event, there is no proposal at all to extend the airport footprint into Wyee."
Correspondents to the Lakes Mail are claiming the airport was the reason why Wyong council supports an Independent Local Government Review Panel recommendation to shift the local government boundary so that Wyee [in Lake Macquarie City] be added to Wyong Shire.
Correspondents contend that Wyong Council was forced to reduce the original size of the airport because of opposition from Lake Macquarie City Council.
They say if Wyee is added to the shire, Wyong Council could expand the airport footprint.
Cr Eaton rejects the notion.
"The current investigation zone for the proposed Central Coast Regional Airport was refined from an earlier larger study area after an assessment of physical constraints which may adversely impact the cost of development," he said.
"The smaller study area minimises the potential impacts of infrastructure conflicts [most notably the M1 corridor bisecting the original study area].
"Detailed technical studies will commence in 2014-15, including geotechnical studies and economic viability studies. The results of these studies may indicate that the airport location needs to be adjusted within the same area."
Cr Eaton reiterated that the boundary change is a proposal by the review panel.
"The boundary change is not a Wyong Shire proposal and it is taking it to extremes to suggest that the independent panel is doing our bidding," he said.
