Rates fund luxury while our safety is put on hold

LIKE others in the Cooranbong area (and other places in Lake Macquarie) we have received notice of increased rates. For decades, Cooranbong has needed a safe pedestrian crossing of Freemans Drive near the Centre Road and Alton Road intersections.

LMCC has collected enough in rates years ago to do the work but has spent it elsewhere, saying it will do the work when it collects yet more money from Cooranbong.

Among other methods of providing safety, LMCC could easily have built two speed humps at  low cost just as it has done in Warners Bay.

They would have effectively controlled those drivers who ignore the 50km/h limit and fly through callously at speeds of up to 80km/h.

Not content with ignoring the safety Cooranbong has paid for, LMCC leaflets boast of the wonderful luxuries it is providing in other parts of the city, depending in part on Cooranbong money.

As a matter of honesty, LMCC should refrain from collecting rates in Cooranbong until the intersections are made safe.
