Anzac spirit still thriving

ON behalf of the members of South Lake Macquarie sub-branch of the Returned and Services League of Australia, I would like to thank the Lakes Mail for the great publicity in the lead-up to Anzac Day.

I fully believe that your editorials contributed to the record number who attended both the dawn service and the Anzac Day march and service.

Many members of the sub-branch have commented on the great support that the community displayed on this day and were overwhelmed with pride for our community.

We would like to thank the many businesses that supported the Anzac Day appeal in the lead-up to Anzac Day, which enabled our great volunteers from the RSL Women's Auxiliary and RSL Old Boys Auxiliary to sell badges to the community. Thank you to the community in supporting our veterans through the purchase of these badges.

I would also like to express my gratitude to the Morisset Country Club, civil emergency services and community groups that participated in making this day possible; especially the members of 229 Army Cadet Unit in Morisset.

And thank you to all the parents, caregivers and school children that took the time to participate in our national day of pride; the Anzac spirit is alive and well within this community.

Lest we forget.

Photographs of the day can be sent to me at president@slmrsl.org.au for inclusion on our website.
