State MP for Lake Macquarie, Greg Piper, said the project would greatly improve safety and security on the site, which has been a target for vandalism.
The careers building at the high school was lost to an arson attack several years ago.
The works are scheduled to be completed this financial year.
Funding was approved in the recent state budget.
The estimated cost has not been released as the project will be subject to a commercial tender.
"This investment is a win for those school communities," Mr Piper said.
"I am sure students, staff, P&C members and parents are delighted that the NSW government has responded to the need and their requests."
