Taylor's association with Wyong Rugby League Club extends over many years, and he was a premiership-winning coach with the Roos in the Central Coast competition.
He is also employed by the Wyong Leagues Club Group.
Taylor's coaching experience includes stints with both the Parramatta and Newcastle Knights reserve grade squads.
Wyong Leagues Club board member and chairman of the Football Committee, Phil Langley, said there were some quality applicants for the job.
“We were surprised and somewhat chuffed by the quality of the applicants for the
position," Langley said.
''These applicants included a former NRL coach and several international
players of some renown. The great work Paul Stringer, his players and support staff
have done for this season has made people sit up and take notice.
"Wyong Roos are now a prominent part of the rugby league landscape. Rip Taylor is a good fit for
us as head coach. He brings considerable experience and a wealth of ideas to the
position.
"The Board is confident that Rip will quickly build upon the strong platform
established by Paul, and is the man to take us where we want to be, football wise, over
the next few years.”
Taylor recently coached the NSW Residents to victory over Queensland Residents in the curtain-raiser to the third State of Origin match.
Meanwhile, the Roos take on Cronulla Sharks on Saturday at Leichhardt Oval, in Round 21 of the
VB NSW Cup.
The match will be televised live on Fox Sports 2 from 12.40pm.
