Morisset now has the Cans4Films Festival.
It kicks off at Network Video Morisset on Monday.
Proprietor Rendyl Minto said the campaign aimed to provide hunger relief for needy locals.
"Helping is simple - do your bit to end hunger by simply donating a can of food at Network Video Morisset and you'll receive a free weekly rental," Mr Minto said.
"Donate two cans and receive three weekly rentals. You get a great night's entertainment, and you ensure that someone's not going hungry."
Customers who don't have spare cans to donate can instead make a gold coin donation and the money will be used to buy more cans of food.
One in every 10 Australians relies on food relief at some point in any given year, he said.
Mr Minto and his staff kick-started the can drive by donating 150 cans.
"Our personal store goal is to raise over 1000 cans of food during the month of July," he said.
Donated cans will be given to the Salvation Army for local distribution at the end of the month-long campaign.
■ Network Video Morisset is in Yambo Street, and was previously a Video Ezy outlet. Mr Minto said rebranding to Network Video, the largest group in the video rental industry, enabled the store to stock a greater variety of movies.
