World champ a star at Soldiers

TWO-time world champion Damian King held his nerve under pressure to win the recent Soldiers Beach Pro international bodyboarding final by the tightest of margins.

King, of Port Macquarie, edged out South African up-and-comer Jared Houston by just 0.67 points to win the International Bodyboarding Association-sanctioned event.

The lead changed repeatedly in the first 15 minutes of the final, however King's experience shone through as he used the priority system to good effect as conditions slowed in the final 15 minutes.

King put together a combined wave total of 12.77 over Houston's 12.10.
