SOUTHERN Lakes booked a berth in the Newcastle A Grade rugby union grand final with a 48-7 thumping of Carlton in the major semi-final at Marcellin Oval on Saturday.
"The game opened like a dockyard brawl with Carlton attacking for most of the half, but mistakes proved costly for them in the attacking 22-metre area," Southern Lakes spokesman Eric McKenzie said.
But an 80m try against the run of play to Callam Vizer turned the tide and Southern Lakes led 14-nil at the break.
Carlton clawed back to 14-7 shortly after the break, but the Hammerheads kicked again to post 34 unanswered points.
The grand final will be played on September 11.
