Seconds lead way for Kookas

14 Jan, 2010 01:00 AM
WHILE Toronto's first-grade team, minor premiers and beaten grand finalists last season, languish in 10th place on a 12-rung ladder, the second-grade Kookaburras side are leading the way in their Newcastle District Cricket Association competition.

On 26 points and undefeated to date, the reserves are top of the table by seven points going into day two of round six on Saturday.

And they already have first-innings points wrapped up in that match against Belmont, after declaring at 9-178 and dismissing Belmont for 71 in their first dig.

Toronto are also performing well in the lower grades, currently third in both third and fourth grade.

Meanwhile, the first-graders again face a stiff battle on Saturday after last week being dismissed for 171 against Belmont, who are 0-6 in reply.

First-grade strike bowler Joseph Price remains second on wickets taken, with 20, one off the top.

Meanwhile, Michael Radnidge and Matt Gawthrop have earned a spot in the Newcastle Colts side.
