IT was not the successful 49er world title defence for which Nathan Outteridge had hoped, but the Wangi sailor was still delighted to finish second with crewman Iain Jensen in the Bahamas on Sunday.
The pair won the 2009 49er World Championship in Italy but sat 10th at one stage during their 2010 defence before charging to second over the final days.
"For us to finish second after where we were it was a really good result," said Outteridge on Sunday.
"After being on the edge of the top 10 and to move forward yesterday and again today we were really happy with that.
"You had to sail really high risk here and the Spanish are really good at sailing high risk all the time."
Spain's Iker Martinez and Xabier Hernadez were runaway 27-point winners.
In other news, Sunshine club sailors Brett Holly and David Leask finished 23rd and 37th respectively at the world contender class titles in Brisbane on Tuesday.
Australian Jono Neate won the title.
