WYONG scored an emphatic 36-nil win over Kurri Kurri on Sunday, despite missing nine first graders for the Newcastle Rugby League fixture at Kanwal.
Coach Paul Stringer was full of praise for his men.
"Given the circumstances that we were in, this is one of the best wins that I've been a part of at the club," Stringer said.
Wyong's four NSW Country representatives - Bodie O'Connell, Chad Sharp, Mitch Williams and Josh Mantellato - were unavailable for the game.
Injuries and illness also prevented Marc Reed (groin), Ben Upton (tonsillitis), John Grey (hamstring), Kirk Thompson (quadricep) and Aaron Wallace (knee) from playing.
At the start of the season, Stringer told Lakes Mail that the club had strengthened its player depth. On Sunday, that claim was put to the test.
"The players who stepped in just picked up on the way that we play, and played to the game plan," Stringer said.
Hooker Shaun Sullivan was the stand-out for the Roos, Stringer said.
"Shaun has been great off the bench for us this year, and has probably been in the shadow of [representative hooker] Mitch Williams a bit. But he was outstanding on Sunday."
The coach also singled out new recruit, Englishman Chris Feather.
"Chris just brings a lot of size, strength and experience to our side," Stringer said of the hard-running prop.
This Sunday, Wyong will host last-placed Northern Blues at Morry Breen Field.
Stringer said that despite their position on the ladder the Blues had some "good young talent, and plenty of speed" and represented a genuine threat to the third-placed Roos.
The Roos will again be without their four NSW Country representatives.
Competition leaders Maitland, meanwhile, defeated Macquarie Scorpions 32-4 at Peacock Field.
This Sunday, the Scorpions will travel to Townson Oval to take on Souths.
