MACQUARIE Scorpions will be missing at least three key players when they take on Wyong in the Tooheys Cup rugby league match at Kanwal this Sunday.
Representative prop Danny Vaughan (knee), hooker Daniel Bates (ankle) and lock Matt Cook (ankle) were due to have MRI scans earlier this week to determine the extent of injuries sustained in Macquarie's 38-10 win over South Newcastle last Saturday.
Football club secretary Steve Woodbridge said the club was bracing for more bad news.
"We had another couple of players with bruises and bumps," he said.
Among them are halves Todd Bridge and Chad Solman who are also in doubt for the Wyong game.
"With 20 minutes to go on Saturday the dressing sheds resembled a hospital ward," Woodbridge said.
"We just ran out of room to treat [the players]."
While the injuries took some of the gloss off the Scorpions' win over South Newcastle, the victory did highlight the club's resolve.
Coach Mal Graham described the win as one of the most courageous that he'd been involved in.
The Scorpions will need more of the same when they take on the defending premiers at Morry Breen Field.
"We're facing a massive challenge," Graham said.
"The integral ingredients of our team have been torn out.
"Sunday's game will be a real test of our depth, but at the same time it gives some of our younger players, and local juniors, a chance to cement a spot in first grade."
The Roos swamped the Northern Blues 36-nil at Tomaree Sporting Complex on Saturday night.
Josh Mantellato crossed for three tries in the impressive attacking display.
Sunday's game kicks off at 3pm.
