JACK Moir's sporting aspirations are going downhill fast... and he couldn't be happier.
Moir, 16, of Morisset Park, is one of Australia's best young downhill mountain bike riders.
This weekend he gets the chance to race in his "backyard" as Awaba Mountain Bike Park hosts the second round of the 2010 NSW Mountain Bike Downhill Championships.
In the first round of the championship in Thredbo, Moir placed third in the under 17 men's category.
He's hoping that his local knowledge of the Monkey downhill track at Awaba will give him an edge.
"It's one of my favourite tracks," Moir said.
"It's steep and tight, but there are some fast downhill sections, too."
A former motorbike rider, Moir has not looked back since switching to pedal power.
He finished sixth at the recent Australian titles in Canberra, and was third in last year's NSW series.
This weekend's event will be hosted by Hunter Mountain Bike Association and will be contested across 17 categories for men and women, with age divisions down to under 5s.
