Brave but running on empty

15 Jul, 2010 01:00 AM
THE depleted Macquarie Scorpions couldn't muster the necessary energy to run down South Newcastle in their Newcastle Rugby League match at Townson Oval on Sunday.

Souths converted a 16-6 halftime lead into a 22-14 win in a game that got away from the Scorpions.

"We really struggled with our intensity," Macquarie's football secretary Stephen Woodbridge said.

"We had our chances, but just couldn't convert them."

Macquarie's try-scorers were Robert Faatoia-Collins, Cameron Dyer and Josh Schmiedel.

Season-ending injuries to several key Macquarie players continue to stretch the club's playing depth.

This Sunday, Macquarie will host Wyong at Peacock Field at 3pm.

In Round 3, Macquairie jumped to an early 12-nil lead over Wyong before losing 54-18.
