MACQUARIE Scorpions managed to get their 2011 season back on track with wins in all grades against Kurri Bulldogs last weekend.
Scorpions Coach Trent Dally said the win in all grades was the most pleasing aspect of the day.
"The club needed those wins to kick-start the season and provide impetus early on, especially with difficult games against Wyong this weekend," Dally said.
Saturday's contest was a very different scenario to the Scorpions' previous two games against Cessnock and South. In those games the Scorpions gave away big leads and although clawing their way back into the contest, the Scorpions failed to come away with wins.
But against the Bulldogs, the Scorpions first grade game was never in doubt with the Scorpions leading 28-12 at halftime, before coming away with very convincing 38-18 win.
"We played some great attacking football in the first half and Randall Briggs and Todd Bridge in the halves are just starting to come together and forming some good combinations" Dally said.
Although reluctant to single out players in such a dominant display, Dally said he has been impressed with the form of the two sets of brothers in Andrew and Patrick Sumner and Jared and Matt Edwards, with Jared Edwards crossing for three tries and Patrick Sumner two tries against the Kurri Bulldogs.
"With a number of quality players due to return from injury in the next few weeks there is no reason why these results cannot continue in all three grades as each team will be stronger as a result," Dally said.
Scorpions play eastern lakeside rivals Lake United at Peacock Field, Toronto on May 15 for the Lake Macquarie Challenge. The shield is currently held by Lakes United so the game will have added incentive for the Scorpions.
