Hook, Line and Sinker

12 Nov, 2009 10:24 AM
OVER the past week or so there have been some good size tailor coming from the beaches and rocks with some of these tailor more or less reaching the 4kg mark. They've been the tailor taking big baits meant for jew.

Big schools of salmon have been spotted (and fished) cruising anywhere from Red Head down to Norah Head, to find these schools of salmon just look for the birds working.

There has been Kingies following these schools of salmon with fish up to 10kg having been reported. Best bet is to use 60 to 85gm raiders and snipers in green, or use fresh or live squid baits under a float. These baits have all been producing some good kings.

Prawns will also be running for the next couple of weeks especially in Swansea channel, and this weekend's tides should be ideal as the tides ought to start to run out around dark.

Sand whiting are going well in Swansea channel, predominantly on live worms and small live prawns. The channel has also been producing some nice flatties and squid.

Fishing deeper water around the lake using blades has been all the rage with catches of whiting, bream, flathead, flounder and some nice squire.

These lures are comparatively easy to work and are very popular for those who like to use lures.

For those chasing trumpeter whiting, good numbers of these fish seem to be around in most parts of the lake especially the usual spots like Bonnells Bay, Muyuna Bay, Sunshine and Point Wolstoncroft. All are well worth a try. Using 6 lb line, a small running sinker and peeled prawn or squid should get you a feed of these tasty fish.

And we may have some crabs finally appearing with a few reports in the last few days of crabs being caught in deeper water.
