With just three months training Morisset High School student Liam Yokoyama took a gold medal at the recent Australian National Judo Championships in Sydney.
Beating all comers from every state in Australia, Liam overcame opponents with years of experience, some holding a brown belt, the highest grade awarded to junior Judo players.
In January Liam will attend Kodokan Judo Academy in Tokyo for six months of full-time training. The Academy is the birthplace of judo and has a reputation for producing many Japanese as well as foreign Olympic champions, past and present.
