Scorpion jumpers for Fiji

30 Jul, 2009 12:00 AM

MACQUARIE Scorpions rugby league club has donated a set of its 2008 jerseys to boost the game in Fiji.

The jerseys, worn by Macquarie in the Newcastle Rugby League last season, will be sent to the tiny Pacific nation in September.

They will accompany a touring party of 60 players representing rugby academies from throughout country NSW.

Scorpions club secretary Steve Woodbridge said the tourists would distribute the jumpers during the trip, on which they will play local teams and run coaching clinics at Fijian schools.

"The Macquarie Scorpions became aware of the tour and the clinics being held through the Country Rugby League, and they were wanting donations from any clubs of jerseys so they could be presented to the schools and clubs over in Fiji," Mr Woodbridge said.
