Professor changed tune on morning after meeting

09 Feb, 2012 12:00 AM
AT a public meeting at Belmont recently three climate change sceptics gave a one-sided view on predicted sea-level rises and criticised Lake Macquarie City Council for its policies.

Professor Robert Carter suggested the council had concocted its sea-level rise prediction based on global data that wasn't relevant to Lake Macquarie. Interestingly, at the Lake Macquarie business breakfast next morning, Professor Carter publicly apologised for this statement and conceded that the council's predictions were based on state government data.

He also praised the council on its approach to minimising flood risks.

What a pity the 300 or so people who were at the meeting on Tuesday night weren't at the breakfast to hear that. Perhaps Jeff McCloy, who organised the public meeting, might fund another public meeting so people can hear climate change scientists present their point of view, based on peer-reviewed research.
