LAKE Macquarians may recall the direct train between Toronto and Newcastle.
No-one I've met believes that their transport was improved by cutting it off at Fassifern.
Developers are now busy on their fifth attempt these last two decades to get the other end of the line cut at Civic, Wickham, Hamilton, Woodside Junction or Broadmeadow - take your pick.
Obviously these developers don't have to search for a parking space at Cardiff, Fassifern, Morisset, Wyong or Gosford, as many travellers must do because there's not enough parking for commuters travelling into Newcastle.
But it's much better than trying to park in Newcastle!
Rather than wasting hundreds of millions of taxpayers' dollars handing over Newcastle rail lands to developers, why not just give them a few hundred million dollars to do as they like and leave our transport system alone?
That would be a cheaper deal for everyone.
