What residents want: more loos not footy ovals

IT isn't footy ovals but more picnic areas, more shade and more toilets that Central Coast residents say they desire.

Wyong Council has adopted a Recreation Facilities Strategy to ensure it provides the best possible opportunity for a healthy and active lifestyle in the Shire.

Council's Landscape Architect Boyd McMillan said it had taken three years of research to create the RFS including consultation with all major sporting groups and 75 specific workshops.

"The strategy sets objectives and principles for planning, developing and maintaining sporting and recreation facilities," Mr McMillan said.

"It identifies strategic actions needed to achieve the objectives in a sustainable way. This is the first time Council has adopted an overarching strategy in regard to recreation facilities and the strategy has been developed to ensure a good alignment with the Shire Strategic Vision (SSV)."

Mr McMillan said some of the major findings of the consulting process were that people wanted to feel safe using the Shire's recreation facilities, and saw these facilities as an opportunity to come together and participate in a healthy lifestyle.

The Strategy has been amended from the draft document displayed early this year
