A NEED for "lady like" modesty was the driving force behind the smart new uniforms now worn by kindergarten and primary students at Brightwaters Christian College on the Morisset peninsula.
"Young girls like to climb on things and swing upside down just like the boys do so we thought they should wear something a little more practical than a skirt," school principal Tania Anway said.
"We took the opportunity to revamp the entire school uniform including the sports and formal uniforms," Ms Anway said.
After a year of planning and design, the girls now wear culottes (French for divided skirts) which Ms Anyway says have freed up the children to play.
"People will have no difficulty in identifying our students now," Ms Anway said.
For their formal uniform, the boys wear cargo-style short pants and both have sky blue shirts with a new logo bearing representations of the sun, the water and a small fish.
