BEING single and over 45 years of age for many is a choice between loneliness and facing potentially 'dodgy' encounters through the internet.
And that's where RPM (Real People Meeting) may well prove to be a blessing for those looking to simply enjoy the company of their own age group by sharing a good time together.
"It started as a chance discussion between friends which led to the establishment of a group of 45s plus people," organiser Fiona Hall said.
"As a group of friends we were talking about the lack of meeting opportunities in our area on the western side of Lake Macquarie especially for persons over 45 years old. Then we hit on the idea of organising our own group to do something about it," she said.
"We're looking to bring people together in a fun and non-threatening way which doesn't rely on the vagaries of internet or the difficult and intimidating pub or bar environment. Our plan is well-organised, friendly events where everyone knows it's a meeting point but where everyone can enjoy a good night out at the same time," Ms Hall said.
The first 45s Plus evening will be held at Wangi Workers Club on April 24.
"It's a full-on fun dinner and dance event under the RPM title with the covers band Hot Gossip providing the grooves. Attendance is only available via prior registration and it's priced to be a good class event to attract genuine people in need of companionship and a good, fun time," she said.
Cost is $75.00 per head. For further information log on to www.rpm45splus.com or phone 49731 630.
