Residents make model village

02 Sep, 2010 01:00 AM
WHAT Cooranbong may have been like if the village had been on the main rail line and it had boasted a railway station has literally become a model project for the elderly residents of Avondale's Nursing Home.

"The idea to build a model railway for the male residents came from our resident's committee," Recreational Action Officer Darlene Turner said.

"Committee member Clarry Dupen produced a very basic N-Gauge table layout he had from a 1992 project and every Monday our male residents gathered to help make bits of the scenery to replicate Cooranbong and Dora Creek as it could have been.

"It has four working tracks, tunnels and even a Sanitarium factory. Everybody has a go and it attracts a great deal of attention, including the lady residents and especially children when they come to visits to visit their relatives," Ms Turner said.
