Red cross needs support

02 Feb, 2012 12:00 AM
MANY think of of the Red Cross in a military or emergency medical context but there's far more to the organisation than stretcher bearing on battlefields or building tent cities in foreign lands struck by storm, famine or war.

South Lakes Branch of the Australian Red Cross is looking for people who would like to help raise funds to maintain the many services operated by the Red Cross as the world's largest humanitarian organisation.

The Australian Red Cross works to support the most vulnerable people.

Its work includes responding to communities affected by disaster; providing a nutritious breakfast to school students who may otherwise go without or simply reconnecting socially isolated people with the community through daily telephone calls from friendly volunteers.

The branch meets on the third Monday of each month at the community Service Centre Cooranbong.

The next meeting will be February 20. For more information ring 4977 2213 or 4977 2939.
