Power to hard up people

PENSIONERS and low-income families in Lake Macquarie region can be helped to manage their power bills through the free Home Power Savings Program.

Lake Macquarie city Council's Manager Sustainability Alice Howe encouraged all eligible people to take advantage of the program which could save them about $265 a year on their power bills.

"There are more than 16,500 eligible households in this area and with State Government funding council has received we'll be able to communicate with these households," she said.

The program is available to eligible Centrelink and Department of Veterans' Affairs cardholders as well as social housing tenants and energy utility hardship customers.

To take advantage of the program call 1300 662 416.
