 Poet a force of nature

Poet a force of nature

03 Dec, 2009 12:00 AM
MARTINSVILLE author Magdalena Ball will launch her latest collection of poems this week, and she hopes her readers will be just a little repulsed.

In her book, Repulsion Thrust, Ms Ball uses scientific concepts such as quantum physics as the inspiration for her prose.

"I know that there is plenty of practical, nuts and bolts science behind much of what goes on in a scientific laboratory, but to me, the whole notion of a hypothesis is pure poetry," she said.

"Repulsion Thrust is an actual scientific force that means exactly what it says the force created by repulsion, generally used when describing magnets.

"The notion of a repulsion thrust immediately made me think about the power that the force of repulsion, and anger, might have on a person, and ended up writing the title poem for for the collection."

Ms Ball, a mother of three, has written three short poetry books and a novel, and is currently working on another offering.

"I've been continuing to work on my second novel, Black Cow. It's a tree-change story about a chief executive who has to rethink his life when his health problems worsen, and his busy family life starts to disintegrate. The story tracks the family as they move from a ritzy suburb to a small Tasmanian farm, and the challenges they encounter as they attempt to change their lives from super consumers to super conservers."

[PI9017] Repulsion Thrust was released by Bewrite Books yesterday. Ms Ball will hold a book launch at Toronto Library on December 9.
