 Playground for Wyee Point

Playground for Wyee Point

26 Aug, 2010 01:00 AM
RESIDENTS of south-western Lake Macquarie will have a new recreation area to enjoy next year at Wyee Point Reserve.

Construction of an extensively equipped adventure playground is due to start in 2011.

Lake Macquarie City Councillors have endorsed a plan to upgrade Wyee Point Reserve with stage one of the pending master plan to be implemented.

Under round three of the Australian Government's Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program (RLCIP), Lake Macquarie City Council will receive $901,000 and match it with $1 million of Council's developer contribution funds to commence the staged project.

Acting manager community planning, Greg Weir, said Wyee Point Reserve was a high priority.

"This area has been in need of facilities for quite some time so I have no doubt the residents of Wyee Point will be happy to see this work progress," Mr Weir said.

"A plan of management and master plan will be exhibited in coming months for public comment. The grant along with section 94 contributions will allow a substantial amount of works to be undertaken, including the construction of an adventure playground, amenities building, seating, shade structures, pathways, BBQs and tables throughout the reserve."
