Morisset Showground aglow on Spectacular night

22 Dec, 2011 12:00 AM
MORE than 2000 people got right into the Christmas spirit at the Southlake Christmas Spectacular at Morisset on Saturday night.

Morisset Showground was aglow with a fireworks display and chemical glowsticks to mark the grand finale of the fifth annual event organised with sponsorship from Lake Macquarie City Council and local business owners.

"We had the Scallywagz leading the stage entertainment, and carols led by the Morisset Multicultural Church Choir and the Toronto Brass band," organiser Rosmairi Okeno said.

"Budding Irish dancers in the audience hopped and skipped to the Irish folk music and dancers of Voyage of Irish Dance," she said. "The Rough Diamonds charmed the crowd once again with their beautiful melodic voices. Their rendition of Amazing Grace was just stunning. It was all just fantastic.

"Sadly, two of the planned rides didn't show, but kids and parents enjoyed the dodgems which were a great hit. Thanks to all the sponsors and volunteers, it was a great night and a top community effort."
