GLENN Berkeley from Bonnells Bay turned out for Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday because he is angry.
"Never thought I'd be a cranky old bloke but I am really cranky at the way we have allowed all levels of government to do nothing about keeping our towns and streets even basically clean and tidy," Mr Berkeley said.
"We have a generation of people who think you just toss your rubbish out of the car window."
On Sunday Mr Berkeley tackled Station and Yambo streets in Morisset using his own brush cutter to cut the knee-high grass bordering the pavement.
"The council should cut it but obviously they don't. There's old tyres, wheels, lumps of wood and dozens of bottles in brown paper bags dumped in full view under trees slap bang in the middle of the shopping area and council doesn't even put up anti litter signs or bins let alone clean up the streets.
"I'll take the rubbish I've collected down to the tip where no doubt it will cost me about $20 out of my own pocket. Welcome to Morisset, it's a disgusting mess in my view," he said.
"Clean Up Australia Day? Every day should be that."
