THE city's roads are considered to be one of council's most important responsibilities but road maintenance generates the least satisfaction from Lake Macquarie residents.
That's the bottom line revealed by the latest bi-ennial Community Survey released by council.
Manager Customer Service and Communication, Gary Brown, said 1000 residents were randomly picked every two years and asked to comment on 62 council-provided services.
"We try to get roughly a third of the survey respondents from each of the three wards but there isn't a great deal of difference in the results of this survey to those of earlier surveys," Mr Brown said.
"Roads and maintenance is one of the biggest budget items and has the biggest gap between importance and satisfaction, showing a gap of 2.6 out of a maximum best figure of five" Mr Brown said.
However, the latest report broadly indicated the majority of residents were generally happy with council performance, with libraries, garbage and recycling services coming in tops.
The library gap generated an importance figure of 4.25 and a satisfaction figure of 4.17, a gap of just 0.08.
Waste collection revealed a gap of 0.48 and kerbside recycling 0.41.
