It's plaque to nature in Sunshine for Kay

28 Jan, 2010 01:00 AM
ONE year ago Kay Rains planted a tiny silky oak tree nurtured from a seed in the gentle foreshore woodlands of Sunshine reserve.

Shortly afterwards, on Christmas Eve, Kay, 70, tragically fell down a set of stairs and was fatally injured.

On Friday, Kay's close family including her three daughters and husband John, gathered around the now thriving young tree to witness another planting in memory of the devoted Landcare Group member.

John Quinlan, president of Sunshine Progress Association, and Kelvin Ward, co-ordinator of Southlake Landcare Group, planted an engraved plaque.

"It is fitting that we place this plaque in Kay's memory close to the tree she planted a year ago," Mr Quinlan said.

Mr Ward said the whole Southlake Landcare Group would miss her.

"Kay was a true friend to all of us in the group and to nature," Mr Ward said.
