Guides 60th celebrations in 50s style

02 Jul, 2009 12:00 AM
SATURDAY is the fourth of July and while it may be Independence Day for Americans it will have an altogether different significance for Toronto Girl Guides.

On Saturday the Toronto Guides will celebrate 60 years of their founding with a special Fete and Fun Day.

Toronto Guides originally met in the (now demolished) Scout Hall at the corner of Victory Parade and Carey Street but in 1963 Toronto moved into their own hall at the present site in William Street.

The Toronto unit has produced 21 Queen's Guides over the years and on Saturday many of them will be special guests.

The day has been tagged Return To The 50s with the hope that anyone attending will dress in a 50s style.

The organisers say all former Toronto Guides and Leaders are welcome.
