GRAFFITI vandals recently caused thousands of dollars of damage to commercial buildings in Morisset's Gateway Industrial Park.
The service station under construction on Wyee Road appears to have been worst affected.
Property owner Francois Shamley said cleaning costs would total about $6000 after the front and rear of the new building, including numerous large glass panels, were defaced.
"They did a lot of buildings on the industrial estate," Mr Shamley said.
"They did the back of John Turk's and the back of the lawnmower shop.
"They did all the signs leading into Morisset, and they got the golf club, and the signs along Wyee Road, and the back and front of the doctor's surgery."
Mr Shamley said the building site foreman had reported the service station vandalism to police. The numbers 2-2-8-6, believed to represent the post-codes of West Wallsend and Holmesville, were spray-painted across the glass panels at the service station.
"They put their postcode on it," Mr Shamley said.
"Apparently, you've got to leave your postcode, so everyone knows where you come from.
"But we've got security cameras up there now; we got it all covered by security, so hopefully that will fix the little bastards."
John R. Turk Morisset storeman driver Paul Kotowski said the wholesale electrical and data suppliers had been targeted by graffiti vandals twice in the past two years.
"It's just a hassle," he said. "It was all up the side of the building."
