Family fun this weekend

13 May, 2010 01:00 AM
THIS Sunday is the day to take the family to Morisset Showground for the biggest, brightest and best day of the year - the Morisset Community Festival.

Several new features are included for the 2010 festival including a live demonstration of 21st century robotics.

Newcastle University is showcasing operational robots including Robo Cup robot dogs that played soccer in Germany in 2006.

"For DIY enthusiasts, the show will have the Bunnings workshops going on all day. Want to know how to do those tricky jobs like tradesmen? This is the day to learn," said show promoter, Bob Starling.

There will be rides galore for the kids to play on all day for just $5.

"The kids get an all-day arm band which is their pass on any ride and the price includes new rides not seen at the show before," Mr Starling said

Fun stalls showing business, charity and community interest group operations will be supported by sales stalls selling all forms of locally made arts and crafts.

"We have a great line-up in entertainment this year, too," Mr Starling said.

"We've got dance troupes, singers, performers and a reptile show and once in the ground it's all free," he said.

Expected to be a major participant draw card is a totally new event called What's It Worth?

Bring along jewellery, books, old magazines and comics for expert advice on whether you should get a professional valuation.
